Chapter 10
A week'sâ worth of days and nights crossed the sky with the members of the vigilante team sticking to their jobs and gaining piece after piece of information leading them to their final goal of apprehending Gerard Legrand and moving him on to a location for a new trial under the eyes of the judges. The routine of where and when he went quickly became apparent, and the group had developed a cohesion.
Picking up the phone in his room, Rizzo invited the other two to make their way to his room for a briefing of the next phase of the mission. Within ten minutes a knock came on the door and both men entered at the same time.
As the door closed behind the men, Rizzo secured the door lock on the knob as well as the security chain.
âYou worried someone might want to come see us, Rizz?â questioned Reggie, without looking back at his team leader.
âNothing that I know about, but you can never be too safe. This is new territory for all of us and who knows who got wind of us.â said Rizzo walking into the main room.
âYouâre not getting a bit paranoid, are you mate?â asked Monty, sitting down in the chair at the table. âI find guys always start worrying about who is watching at the week mark of a mission. I think it is just some kind of internal alarm clock that tells us things have been going too well for too long.â
âYou might be right about that.â said Rizzo, pulling out a long rolled up piece of paper from behind the headboard and placed it onto the bed. âFor me, I think we have come too far to let a mistake knock us down. I would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to all of us.â
âSounds fair to me.â said Reggie. âWe should all be watching our step.â
âNobody needs to look at me like I am not going to.â said Monty leaning back in the chair, brining the front two legs of it off the ground. âI am as dependable as it gets. I never said anyone here should take things lightly.â
âNo, nobody said you did.â said Rizzo, stepping in before the two other men could turn a molehill into a mountain. âYou two have been specially selected for this mission. You know what youâre doing and there is no way I would doubt either one of you. After we succeed at this mission, I look forward to doing more of these and dumping some more scum like Legrand into the hands of the judges.â
Pulling himself out from behind the bed, Rizzo moved over to the table and unrolled the large sheet of paper that showed the blueprint of the casino and its business offices that were owned by Legrand.
âHoly shit!â said Reggie, looking at the blueprint. âHow did you get your hands on this?â
Placing an ashtray at one end of the paper to keep it from rolling up, Rizzo stood tall and smiled at his friend.
